What are kastom storis?
Kastom storis (or custom stories) are traditional stories passed along through generations of Solomon Islanders. They often relate to people's relationships with ancestors and the environment. Kastom storis form the foundation of Solomon Islands' traditional knowledge, which is an important tool in addressing the effects of climate change.
While kastom storis were traditionally told orally, attempts have been made over time to capture these storis in written form. Shown to the left is the cover of 'Custom Stories of the Solomon Islands’, published by the Cultural Association of the Solomon Islands in 1978.
This page will include kastom storis from across different parts of Solomon Islands, particularly those relating to elements of the environment, community stewardship, and adapting to change.
