Klaemet Storis was created in May 2020 as part of the awareness raising role of the Solomon Islands Climate Action Network (SICAN). Klaemet Storis is intended to be a participatory knowledge hub which is accessible for Solomon Islanders of all ages. To do this, we need to make sure Klaemet Storis includes the voices of Solomon Islanders, including women, young people, those with disabilities, and those from all provinces of Solomon Islands.
Those behind Klaemet Storis also acknowledge the significant resource Solomon Islanders have in its traditional, or kastom, knowledge. We want to give a platform to enable kastom storis to be told, and the importance of this storytelling is reflected in the Klaemet Storis name. Storytelling can be the best way to pass on knowledge about the environment, from generation to generation.
Giving women, youth and people with disabilities a voice is critical given they are often disproportionately affected by climate change. SICAN has members from, and relationships with, organisations such as Vois Blong Mere, Honiara City Youth Council, and People With Disabilities Solomon Islands. We will encourage these organisations to share their ideas and views on this platform.
We are always interested to hear from other Solomon Islands contributors. If you have a story, some comments, or a project you think others should hear, please contact SICAN by sending us an email or finding us on our Facebook page.
